Why is Singapore awesome?
Firstly, despite the rough and rude appearance of Singaporeans.
Singaporeans are SHY.
If a random stranger comes. "Hey, do you know where is ..."
"Hey, are you Singaporean?"
We would try our best to give an answer. Of course, some may shrug and faster 'zao'.
We would usually "stun" and try our best to give an answer.
Walk in many public areas. You may hear strangers talking to strangers. Any Singaporean would had talked to strangers more than once for pure entertainment. We are also less hostile to any new tourist or foreign student.
Because of our crude choice of language and behavior, and being too "kanchiong". People think we are uncaring. Our own people think we are uncaring. And yes, we are uncaring, but yet, believe it or not, we are more caring than most countries. We are all like the "tsundere"(Anime reference) type of people, if you hurt a little we may sometimes go "meh" and show no interest, yet when you really fall, there will be people for you. Somehow. Don't ask me why. I do agree we are less initiative. We may fight easily, but hey, we patch easily too. Perhaps due to the Chinese background and culture, we still see humans as humans, and will help when needed. We go "yuck" one moment, and after some gossiping, we go, "ehhh, actually ok".
Singlish. Although not encouraged, you must agree on its usefulness to condense what we have to say to a short phrase. It is also closer to the heart. When someone expresses something in singlish than good english, you feel that the person is more genuine, and yes, most of the time, it is. It is also found animated and hilarious. Best of all, Singlish is constantly updated. And as we grow up, we know and use the latest version of Singlish, contributed by not one or two person, but all of us. An identification not forced upon us, but acknowledged and united by all.
